THE SHOW: Circus of the Shattered Monkey has now been running consistently since july 30th, 2004. Every show we put on is set up as a presentation where each performer`s contribution is a part of a larger whole; everyone involved in some way compliments the other and keeps an audience in their seats. The idea is to make the event an attraction within itself, the big top, shall we say. Everyone involved in the event has something to offer and something to gain and hopefully for some the show becomes a launch pad for their careers
OUR AGENDA:
Le Cirque's immediate agenda is to get linked with enough performers in any area to come their way and put on one fantastic show. Now, we are unaware of places to book this event in every region, but our preferences are art spaces, theater houses and we would consider cool quaint clubs. We will not stage this event in a place with a lot of noise coming from the bar and pool games going on in front of the stage and big screen TV's showing football while people are performing. If any performers or talent buyers are interested in bringing the Circus to town, please keep that in mind and suggest places that you think may work.

BIO:
Arising in July 2004 from a small art gallery in Cambridge, MA and currently being staged in rooms from The Knitting Factory, NYC to Club Metronome in Burlington, VT, Cirque du Singe Brisé/Circus of the Shattered Monkey is rapidly gaining notoriety for presenting standout fringe artists in indie music and all things art under its big top of eclectic excellence.
Rich Van Vleet, a once manager, founded The Circus as an outlet for a then client of his. Always working performers with a mark of distinction, Van Vleet believes his flare for such artists is very hereditary. His grandfather was in a touring rockabilly band during the first wave of the genre.
The original premise of Cirque du Singe Brisé was to get his client around by creating a show that focused on like-minded performers so he could get exposed to other appreciative audiences and not have to be at the mercy of an individual draw.
Before even the first exécution (performance), Van Vleet was becoming a fan of the other acts involved and quickly realized that his reason for creating the event was the same reason why so many great players immediately jumped on board. The enthusiasm received from the artists and the positive reception we received from the press were unexpected. We have noticed, though, that with those two factors in place, the people usually are not that far behind. And with every presentation the show is becoming more and more a new music source and musician's resource.
All of us involved know we're dealing with sounds and styles that more so fill niche markets than have mainstream appeal and we'd like to keep it that way. Our growing audience wants us to keep it that way too.
At the moment, Cirque du Singe Brisé is being staged regularly in the Northeast and, wherever we travel, audience reactions seem to be similar; people like the surprises our show produces. They also like how we harbor their local performers and bring them around as a part of our community and we like how putting all these performers under one roof makes us an equal contender on the club circuit with the mainstream.
Are we total freaks? Hardly. We are songwriters, artists and musicians that meet our own callings instead of following the sound du joure. We are the ones that present our creative souls onstage, the ones that actually have something to say and the ones that still dare to stretch music's limits.
Go back to our home page and give that jukebox of ours a thorough listen, you'll quickly get a good idea of what we're about. Then go to our pictures page and get to know these faces now so you can say you saw them when...

PRODUCER'S NOTE TO THE TRUE MUSIC LOVING PUBLIC "Something`s bound to come of it," someone told me with a thick Liverpool accent back in 2002. Those were the final words that led to me going from Long Island to the UK to three days in Nashville and discovering it all in Boston.
Yeah, it's been an adventurous three years filled with loads of wear and tear along the way and as the wounds heal and the smoke clears, here I am looking that something head on and seeing magnificient potential. There's still a lot more to go, but in under 18 months we went from being staged monthly in the tiny Zeitgeist Gallery in Cambridge to filling the the Knitting Factory in NYC. That's only incentive to continue and find out what the next 18 months can bring us.
So far, along the way we've already seen such Cirque members as J J Baron start their road of national notoriety and had moments of political controversy compliments of Kids Against Combs going against Sean Hannity(that was a blast!). There have been plenty of behind the scenes sagas as well. All of it is just the beginning, we hope.
As The Circus grows into its second year, our main goal is to start making you -the music loving public- aware of just how good the artists involved are. We need ya's to take more notice of us to make things happen. When you're at a show, we need ya's to be open-minded to what you're seeing and be aware that coming to see us is more than just seeing your friend's band play. You will be exposed to artists from all over the country that are there because we see a special something in them. We ask you to take that moment and find that something too.
If you do see and hear what we're talking about, then there's nothing preventing you from coming to our next show, whether or not your friend's band is playing. You can even start getting acquainted with our past now by checking out all the Cirque moments to date on our LINKS pageand getting to know their music from our JUKEBOX and seeing their lovely faces in our GALLERY
I do think that if you put it in your head that you are coming to see a show instead of seeing some band play, you will be impressed. And if you're impressed enough with the acts you've seen, get to know who they are and buy their CD. These artists need that support and the chances are very high that if you liked 'em, we already do and that act or another equally good or better will be on board the next time we come around.
Come run away with The Circus for the night and treat coming to our show just as you would going to a concert. Our gang won't let ya down.
Cheers
Rich Van Vleet Prod. Cirqu du Singe Brisé
